A state of emergency is hereby declared in the Schoharie County effective on October 1, 2025, at 12:01 AM.
This state of emergency has been declared due to:
Schoharie County Council of Senior Citizens, Inc. has severed the contractual relationship with the county of Schoharie to provide personnel to operate the Schoharie County public transportation network and on demand transportation for medical appointments effective on September 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Without any action by the county of Kohari, this would close the public transportation network, which will have an impact on our vulnerable residence who have no other means of transportation available to them, especially members of the senior community and those in need of transportation for medical appointments.
To ensure continuity of services to the users of the service currently provided, the County of Schoharie will hire the current personnel performing the stated services as temporary employees of Schoharie County for up to six months while assessing all options for the purpose of obtaining operating authority from New York State for some inter-county transportation.
In some cases, there may be differences and salaries of some incoming temporary personnel and current county personnel. To ensure continuity of these vital services, the differences will be in place only until determination of the temporary employment status or March 31, 2026, whichever occurs first.
This situation threatens public health.
This state of emergency will remain in effect until rescinded by a subsequent order.

Federice, Exercise the authority given to me under section 24 of the New York State executive law, to preserve public safety, and hereby, render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of this county. I I hear by direct all department and agencies of Schoharie County to take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property, public infrastructure, and provide such emergency assistance deemed necessary.
